NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – April 19, 2021 – A hot-mix asphalt paving project on U.S. 18 in Charles City from Gilbert Street to the Chickasaw County line will require intermittent lane closures beginning on Monday, April 26, weather permitting, and be completed by mid-October, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.
Work within the city will also include underground utility replacement. Street parking on U.S. 18 within the project area will not be allowed for the duration of the project. Motorists will be directed through the work zone with flaggers and pilot cars during daytime hours.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
