Iowa Department of Transportation

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – March 13, 2020 – The first phase of 2020 construction on Iowa 57/West First Street in Cedar Falls begins on Monday, March 16, with the closure of North College Street at Iowa 57/West First Street, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office. This road closure will be in place for two weeks.

Additional lane closures will be placed for utility work on the south side of Iowa 57/West First Street between Walnut and Ellen streets. East- and westbound traffic will be maintained in a head-to-head lane configuration throughout the work zone.

After completion of construction at the intersection of North College Street, on Monday, March 30, the second phase of the project will begin with removal of the southern portion of pavement on Iowa 57/West First Street between Walnut and Ellen streets. Lane closures will occur as construction crews move east and several side streets will be closed during this work. East- and westbound traffic will be maintained in a head-to-head lane configuration during this phase of the project.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
