AMES, Iowa – March 11, 2021 – The Iowa Department of Transportation is requesting public input for two proposed bridge replacements on U.S. 69 in Polk County. The first proposed project is the replacement of an existing bridge on U.S. 69 over Fourmile Creek 0.3 miles north of Polk County Road F-22. The second proposed project is the replacement of an existing bridge 0.8 miles south of Polk County Road F-22.

The first project includes replacing the 120’ long x 28’ wide existing bridge with a single span 110’ long x 44’ wide Pretensioned Prestressed Concrete Beam (PPCB) bridge. The second project includes replacing a 48’ 10” long x 44’ wide I-beam bridge with a 44’ wide x 120’ single span PPCB bridge.

Construction of the project is expected to begin in 2023.

Through traffic on U.S. 69, for the first project, will be detoured using Polk County Road F-22/NE 126th Street, I-35, and Iowa 210. The second project detour will use NE 36th Street, I-35, and Polk County Road F-22/NE 126th Street. For more information, see the website listed below.
