AMES, Iowa – March 12, 2020 – The Iowa Department of Transportation is requesting public input on the proposed reconstruction of the Iowa 92 and Iowa 21 intersection and the Iowa 92 and Keokuk County Road V-33 intersection, and the proposed detour in Keokuk County.
As part of the reconstruction of the intersections, the existing left and right turn lanes at Iowa 2/Iowa 21 and Iowa 92/Keokuk County Road V-33 will be replaced with updated geometry as well as an additional right turn lane for the eastbound to southbound traffic at the Iowa 92/ Iowa 21 intersection. The existing raised islands will be replaced with painted islands and painted channelization. Construction is expected to occur during the 2022 construction season.
Traffic Control: Iowa 92/Iowa 21 and Iowa 92/Keokuk County Road V-33 intersections will not be closed at the same time.
Iowa 92: On-site detours will be used to maintain traffic and access to properties, including the cemetery, on Iowa 92 at all times during construction. Flaggers and pilot cars will be used to direct traffic.
Iowa 21: During construction Iowa 21 will be closed for approximately 21 days. Motorists will be directed to use an official off-site detour. Though traffic will be detoured using Iowa 22, Iowa 149, and Iowa 92.
Keokuk County Road V-33: During construction Keokuk County Road V-33 will be closed, and 145th Street will be closed intermittently. Temporary emergency vehicle access only will be provided from Iowa 92 onto 145th Street.
