AMES, Iowa – Nov. 12, 2019 – The Iowa Transportation Commission approved the following items during its meeting today in the Materials Conference Room at the Iowa Department of Transportation’s headquarters at 800 Lincoln Way in Ames.

The RISE program was established to promote economic development in Iowa through the construction or improvement of roads and streets.  Iowa cities and counties are eligible for funding in the form of a grant, loan, or combination thereof.  Projects must involve construction or improvement of a public roadway.  There are two RISE project types: 1) Immediate Opportunity, and 2) Local Development.  More information is available at https://iowadot.gov/systems_planning/Grant-Programs/Revitalize-Iowas-Sound-Economy-RISE-Program

Council Bluffs: Up to $289,448 from the city share of the RISE Fund was approved for a Local Development grant to assist in the reconstruction of approximately 636 feet of Gifford Road located on the south side of town. This project is necessary to provide improved access to more than 69 acres for industrial and technology purposes. This project is anticipated to be completed by July 2020.

Cedar Rapids: Up to $819,076 from the city share of the RISE Fund was approved for a Local Development grant to assist in the construction of approximately 2,100 feet of Commerce Park Drive and a right-turn lane on 6th Street SW located on the southwest side of town. This project is necessary to provide access to five lots totaling more than 75 acres for warehousing and industrial purposes. This project is anticipated to be completed by October 2020.
