BETTENDORF, Iowa – Nov. 3, 2025 – If you travel on Interstate 80 near Bettendorf you need to be aware of road construction work that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Iowa DOT Davenport construction office.
Construction has begun for the I-80 and Middle Road interchange project. Currently, a new eastbound I-80 on-ramp is being constructed and anticipated to be opened in late 2025. Once the new eastbound on-ramp is open to traffic, the existing eastbound I-80 entrance loop will be permanently closed to allow for bridge construction work to begin.
During the day, traffic is being maintained on I-80, existing interchange ramps, and Middle Road. From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, nightly lane closures will be in place so temporary pavement on eastbound I-80 can be installed. All ramps will be fully accessible until spring 2026.
An anticipated closure of the eastbound I-80 on-ramp will occur for 3 to 4 months beginning in late spring or early summer 2026. This closure allows for paving to begin on the new eastbound I-80 right lane and shoulder. A scheduled closure of the westbound I-80 on-ramp is anticipated to begin in Spring 2027, and last approximately 3 to 4 months. Portions of Middle Road north of I-80 will also be closed during this project.
Iowa DOT Davenport construction office will release more information about closures and expected time frames in 2026
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
