This Week at NCDOT: Holiday Travel and Wilmington Bypass Opening by
RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department’s weekly newscast. Holiday Travel With Christmas coming and millions of travelers going to visit loved ones, the N.C. Department of Transportation is suspending most road construction projects on major routes to help make your trip smoother. Nearly all projects are now on hold through Tuesday, Jan. 2, with these exceptions: U.S. 158 in Dare County; U.S. 64 Business in Nash County; I-85 in Vance and Warren counties; I-85 Business in Davidson County; I-40 Business in Forsyth County; U.S. 70 in Catawba County; and U.S. 441 Business in Macon County Additionally, a rock slide has closed N.C. 28 in Graham County about 13 miles from the Tennessee border. The area will have to be cleared, then stabilized, before reopening to traffic. You can find detailed travel information for your specific route at drivenc.gov. And as always, stay safe by following the speed limit, put down mobile devices and don’t drive distracted, drowsy or impaired. I-140 Wilmington Bypass On the coast, drivers through the Wilmington area have a quicker and easier way to get around now that the I-140 Wilmington Bypass is open. The eight-mile, $ 204 million project completes the 20-mile-long bypass in Brunswick and New Hanover counties. It will provide residents, businesses and visitors with greater mobility in the area.
