The Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation will host media to observe the car ferry operation at the Mississippi River Crossing at Lansing, Iowa.
When: Monday, Nov. 3, 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Where: Lansing Marina, 590 N Front Street, Lansing, IA. Media may park vehicles for this event at the south end of the Lansing Marina outside the restaurant / bar.
Who: Media are invited. Officials from Iowa DOT and WisDOT staff will be available to facilitate coverage and answer questions.
What: Media may observe and record the ferry operations from the landing and may also walk on the ferry. Media may take vehicles on the ferry only as space allows, as Iowa DOT and WisDOT will prioritize space for regular customers. Iowa DOT and WisDOT staff will be available at the Lansing Marina and may also go on board the ferry.
Routes: Media needing to cross the river should use a detour route or may use the ferry as space allows. Neither Iowa DOT nor WisDOT will reserve ferry space specifically for media vehicles. Media should enter the Lansing Marina from the north end as the traffic is now one-way from north to south (see ferry web page for details).
Restrictions: Media may not park vehicles at the Wisconsin landing nor at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Big Slough boat ramp in Wisconsin. Media should not set up cameras or record at the Wisconsin landing due to space and safety considerations. Media on the car ferry must adhere to crew instructions.
Weather: The media availability will occur rain or shine.
