GRIMES, Iowa – Sept. 13, 2021 – A project to reconstruct the two right lanes of northbound Interstate 35/eastbound Interstate 80 over Hickman Road requires shifting traffic to the left two lanes from 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.
The ramp from University Avenue to northbound I-35/eastbound I-80 will also be closed at 8 pm. on Friday, Sept. 17, and reopened by 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The eastbound I-80 to eastbound/northbound I-80/35 ramp will be closed for approximately two hours beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17 to allow the contractor to place traffic control devices and shift traffic. Through traffic will be detoured to I-235 and I-80 EB traffic will be detoured to I-35 southbound to the Mills Civic interchange, then sent to I-35 northbound. See map.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
