FAIRFIELD, Iowa – October 7, 2020 – The Iowa Department of Transportation is reopening the eastbound U.S. 34 off-ramp at Main Street (exit 263) in Burlington at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, weather permitting. The off-ramp at this location had been closed earlier due to ongoing bridge work on the U.S. 34 bridge over the Mississippi River in Burlington between Iowa and Illinois.
Iowa DOT, with assistance from law enforcement from Iowa and Illinois, will be escorting large agricultural equipment wishing to travel on the U.S. 34 bridge during the ongoing construction project. Please contact Jim Webb at 641-919-8551, 10 to 12 hours ahead of expected travel to allow for time to coordinate with law enforcement. Callers should provide the expected time of crossing, direction of travel, load width and weight information, and a contact number.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
