ANKENY, Iowa – Aug. 11, 2020 – If you have an appointment at one of the Iowa Department of Transportation’s driver service centers today, please note that many locations are closed due to power outages. Because there is no power, phone lines are also not functioning.

9:30 a.m. update – Power has been restored to the Ankeny location. The driver’s service center is now serving customers who have appointments.  The Motor Carrier and Vehicle Services center is also open. The information center phone lines at 515-244-8725 are also now functioning. 

These locations remain closed Tuesday, Aug. 11.

  • Cedar Rapids
  • Des Moines (River Place)
  • Dubuque
  • Marshalltown
  • Waterloo

If you had an appointment at one of the impacted centers today, please reschedule that appointment at https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/service-selector

The online chat feature (red balloon on the lower left side of www.iowadot.gov) will not have live agents, although many questions can still be answered by the automated portion of the chat.

Several county treasurer’s offices were also impacted by the storm and may not be open for driver’s license business today. Please check https://www.iowatreasurers.org/ for updates.
