ANKENY, Iowa – Nov. 18, 2019 – Customers needing driver’s license and identification services at the Dallas County location at 801 Court Street in Adel will notice a change in hours beginning Thursday, Nov. 21.
Hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21; Friday, Nov. 22; Tuesday, Nov. 26; and Wednesday, Nov. 27. The office will be closed Saturday, Nov. 23 and Monday, Nov. 25. The office will also be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 – Sunday, Dec. 1 and will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Starting Nov. 21, Iowa Department of Transportation staff will be providing services at the current location instead of Dallas County staff. Services provided will remain the same. The change in service times are the first step in the process of transferring driver’s license and identification services from the Dallas County Treasurer’s office to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Last year the Iowa Legislature approved the transfer of these services from the Dallas County Treasurer’s office to the Iowa DOT in response to the rapid population growth in the area and increase demand for driver’s license and identification services that was becoming difficult for the county treasurer’s staff to manage.
The Iowa DOT will conduct services at the Adel location until a new, larger driver’s license service center in Waukee can be opened in January. At that time all driver’s license and identification services will be transferred from Adel to the new Waukee location.
Iowans are not limited to completing driver’s license business in the county in which they reside. Currently the Iowa DOT operates 18 driver’s license service centers. In counties where the Iowa DOT does not have a location, the county treasurer’s office provides this service to local residents. Online services are also available 24/7 at www.iowadot.gov.
