Iowa Department of Transportation

GRIMES, Iowa – Sept. 4, 2018 – An asphalt resurfacing project on 63rd Street (Iowa 28) from University Avenue to Hickman Road (U.S. 6) in Windsor Heights will require closing 63rd Street to traffic from 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, until 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.

During this project, a marked detour route will be established to direct traffic around the work zone using University Avenue, Merle Hay Road, and Hickman Road. Motorists on the affected routes are asked to expect slower than usual traffic and be alert for any traffic backups that may occur.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
