Aviation Career Education (ACE) Camps Take Flight Next Week by
RALEIGH–North Carolina students will have the opportunity this summer to learn more about aviation and aviation-related job opportunities at eight upcoming summer camps.  The Aviation Career Education (ACE) camps are sponsored by the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation and partnering organizations, and spots are still available for some sessions. Students can learn about the theory of flight, aviation’s history, aircraft maintenance and new technologies. They will study aviation applications, principles of flight such as thrust and vectoring and aircraft construction. They also have the opportunity to fly unmanned aircraft systems (‘drones’), work on model aircraft design projects, take field trips to aviation industry businesses and, in some locations, fly in an airplane.   “One of the goals of these camps is to inspire students to take advantage of the aviation education that is offered at many of our community colleges and universities,” said NCDOT’s Director of Aviation Bobby Walston. “We emphasize high demand science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers such as piloting, aircraft maintenance, aeronautical engineering, air traffic control and drones.”  “These are the jobs of the future in North Carolina.” The 2018 North Carolina ACE Camp schedule is as follows: Charlotte: Carolinas Aviation Museum June 11–15, “Future Flyers ACE Camp” for 6th– 8thgraders June 18–22, “Future Flyers ACE Camp” for 6th– 8thgraders July 9–13, “Junior Flyers ACE Camp” for 3rd– 5thgraders Information and registration: http://www.carolinasaviation.org Elizabeth City: Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) Aviation (overnight camp) June 17–22, for 9th– 12thgraders (Camp #1) July 8–13, for 9th– 12thgraders (Camp #2) Information and registration:  http://www.ecsu.edu/academics/programs/nasa-aero-acad/summer-academy.html Greensboro: Southeast Guilford Middle School July 10–11, for 5th– 9thgraders Information and registration, contact Steve Flippin, mailto:flipaero@gmail.com Website: http://www.airandauto.org/ Winston-Salem: Carolina Air and Auto Center Summer Program  July 12-14, for 5th – 9th grades Information and registration, contact Steve Flippin at: flipaero@gmail.com Website: http://www.airandauto.org/ Washington: Beaufort County Police Activities League (BCPAL) Summer STEM Aviation and Boating Camp June 11-July 6, for 6th-8thgraders  Information and registration, contact: Al Powell,  beaufortcountypal@hotmail.com Website: http://www.beaufortpal.org/
