This Week at N.C. Transportation: 2016 Aviation Art Contest Winners Announced by
NCDOT also seeks proposals for ferry sponsorships RALEIGH — The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. Aviation Art Contest Winners More than 800 young artists from around the state entered the 2016 Aviation Art Contest, which is sponsored by NCDOT’s Division of Aviation to engage young people in aviation and aeronautics. All children who live in and/or attend school in North Carolina were encouraged to participate in one of three categories: Junior, ages 6-10; Intermediate, ages 11-14; and Senior, ages 15-18. The winning entries were chosen, at least in part, for their creative use of this year’s theme “Air Sports in Harmony with Nature.” The first place finishers in each category were: Junior: Austin Stephenson of Angier Elementary in Angier Intermediate: Hyunmin Ra of Berean Baptist Academy in Fayetteville Senior: Lauren McLaughlin of Green Hope High School in Cary Along with a certificate and recognition from the state, the top three entries in each age group will be forwarded to be judged in the national competition. NCDOT Issues RFP for Ferry Sponsorships As part of NCDOT’s efforts to help cover the cost of delivering some transportation services, this week the department issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) from companies interested in managing sponsorship opportunities for the North Carolina Ferry System. The selected company would work with NCDOT in supervising and managing as many as three corporate sponsors for the ferry system. Sponsorship opportunities would range from Wi-Fi and vending services to the vessels themselves. Money raised from sponsorships would automatically go to a fund to replace aging ferry vessels.
