TRAFFIC ALERT – Construction of I-95 Newark Toll Plaza Highway Speed E-ZPass Requires Lane Closures by
Newark — The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that starting on Monday, April 12, A-Del Construction Company will begin construction of Highway Speed E-ZPass Lanes at I-95 Newark Toll Plaza between Route 896 interchange and the Maryland State Line. In an effort to alleviate any traffic issues with morning and evening commutes, northbound and southbound lane and booth closures on I-95 will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on a limited basis from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., pending weather. This project will include the following improvements:
Northbound Toll Plaza
Retrofit Existing Toll Satellite Plaza to Provide Seven Cash Lanes
Remove Existing Toll Lanes Numbers’s 6-10 at Main Plaza
Construct Overhead Walkway to Provide Safe Access for Toll Collectors & Maintenance
of Highway Speed Tolling Equipment from Above
Southbound Cash Toll Plaza
Maintain Seven Cash Lanes
Remove Existing Lanes Numbers’s 11-13
Structurally Reinforce Existing Access Tunnel under E-ZPass Lanes
Highway Speed E-ZPass Lanes
Construction Four New Travel Lanes
Construct Overhead Equipment Support Structure Needed for Highway Speed E-ZPass
